Today, I did not join the music theory class because I had to do my Ujian Nasional. But, I joined the music instrument class and I asked my friends about the things that they did in music theory class and they told me that they watched our performance yesterday. After that, they wrote the reflection for the group singing assessment. So, after the music instrument class, I went to Mr. Herry's room and asked him to give me the reflection paper so that I can also do the reflection and submit my reflection today. After this, I will start to practice my own music composition because my music instrument teacher is going to check how we play starting next week.

Today, we did our group singing assessment. Each group consists of 2 - 3 people and we were allowed to choose our own groups. But, we also had to sing with different voices so that it sounded better. Some of the groups were good, but some of them were not really confident when singing. My group consisted of 3 people. Actually, my group had to sing at the second order, but Mr. Herry told us that for those who wanted to sing both 1st and 2nd verse, we had to sing after everyone was finished. While we were watching our friends doing their assessment, we also had to give score for them with the range 0 to 10. My assessment was okay, I guess. I feel really satisfied with what my group had done for the assessment and I'm so thankful that my group was chosen as the favorite group for this assessment.

Today, we did our notation written test in class. But, before we started our assessment, Mr. Herry reviewed a bit about it so that we can still remember everything that we learned. After we finished reviewing, we started our assessment and I think it was not really hard because we have learned everything in class and we had done a quiz about the same topic last term. So, we just need to recall everything. After I finished my test, I wrote reflection on the back page and I submitted it to my teacher. I also had to submit the hard copy and also soft copy of my music composition using the Finale software to my teacher so that he can check it and also give advice for all of us.

Today, we first practiced singing "Indonesia Pusaka" for four times because we had to sing that song for our assessment too. After that, we started the individual singing assessment in alphabetical order and I also got my turn to sing today. Some of my friends did kind of well, but some of them did not do it very well. When we did our assessment, we could choose whether we wanted to make the notes higher or lower and I chose the lower one. When it was my turn to sing, I went in front and I started to sing. Honestly, I was really nervous, but not as nervous as in last semester. I think my singing assessment was okay, but I need to learn to be more confident and also learn more about the breathing technique. I think, the main problem for most of the performers today was that they did not breath using their diaphragm. But, I think most of us have improved this semester. Most of us have become more confident to sing in front of the class.

Today, we concentrated on our singing assessment next week. We are going to sing "Indonesia Pusaka" and "You've Got a Friend". We watched the videos of those songs together and we were also given the lyrics for "You've Got a Friend". After that, we also got some advice from Mr. Hary who is a vocal teacher in our school. He told us that we sang on the right pitch, but most of us did not breath with our diaphragm and we have to practice more on that breathing technique. I think I will have to practice more for the assessment next week so that I can get good score on both written and also singing assessment.

After that, we submitted our draft for music composition. My composition's title is "O' Happy Day". Next week, we are going to have notation written test and also singing assessment, so I am going to start preparing for those assessments, especially the singing assessment. We are going to sing "Indonesia Pusaka" which is an Indonesian song, and also a western song titled "You've Got a Friend". Our teacher had decided that those songs are compulsory for us to sing.

Today, we reviewed about the homework that we had yesterday. We talked about key signature and also some other musical signs / symbols. After that, we were explained about music composition by Mr. Herry. He showed us some examples from our friends who were in music class last semester. The compositions were good and they inspired me for my composition. Mr. Herry also taught us how to use the Finale software because we are going to use it in making our composition later on. At last, we did the rhythm exercise in a group of 3. Today, I'll go buy the Finale software and try to use it. I will start making my composition too, so that I can finish it on time.

Today, we reviewed a bit about inversions and tonic triad because we are going to have a written test on the 3rd week of April 2011. After that, we looked at our schedule of the assessments in term 4. Then, we did some exercises (practical) about rhythm. We learned about the rhythms and we did some kind of competition between the instrument classes and the violin group which is my group won the competition. I think the lesson today about rhythm was not hard. At last, our teacher, Mr. Herry explained us about our task, composing rondo music. He also gave us paper for us to write our composition. We have to make 3 themes (A, B, C). Mr. Herry also explained the important elements of a composition to help us in composing music later on.
